I Warned 'Em, But Did They Listen?

Reynolds, Quick, and Green all briefly mention the ratings disaster that is Phil Donahue's new MSNBC show. I just want to say...

Ha! You MSNBC Idiots! I told you so! I told you so! What did you expect the ratings to do? It's Phil Donahue fer Chrissakes! Hahahahaha!

There, I feel better now.

Ok, so here's my idea.

I think it's it's time for a revolution in cable news. Younger (as opposed to the tired old self-important windbags in charge now) people running a station that's geared towards better reporting and more interesting news style shows. Talk shows that are more than just bad-tv relics (Connie Chung? Donohue? These people were never good at the jobs they're supposed to be doing now. Donohue was only popular because women loved watching a sensitive guy yell at the jerks they'd been dating for years).

Think MTV for the eductated (or at least not brain-dead), and news/editorial/opinion for the new demographic (the Baby Boomers are retiring, but still sit like a massive weight on this country).

I mean, come on. I put up a few flyers at the Medill School at Northwestern and we'd have a ton of decently trained kids for field-reporting. The blogger folks will take over editorial positions and pick content.

It could work.

I just posted my thoughts on the above over at my site.
